About The Falcons
What began in 2021 as a small group of fewer than 10 archers has grown over the past seven years into a team of more than 40 amazing boys and girls, consistently ranking among the top three bullseye and 3D teams in the state. Our aim is simple: to teach self discipline, perseverance and confidence building through team work. Oh, and of course to win!

What does the season look like for the Falcons?
Archery practice takes place over the course of the entire school year, from September through April, possibly June if we qualify for the Opens/World Championships. Our team typically practices three times per week, for two hours each. Archers are expected to be prepared for practice and may be asked to assist with fundraising activities throughout the year. The Falcons are often commended by officials for stepping up at tournaments to lend a hand, sportsmanlike conduct, and for the professionalism of the coaches.

My son or daughter is not athletic and has never participated in archery before; are they qualified to be on the team?
Yes! As of now we do not require students to try out for the team. Everyone - whether they have experience with archery or not - may join our team. The only requirements are that they must be a middle or high school student, maintain at least a B average, and not be more than 10% behind in Edgenuity. Oh, and they must be willing to show up to practice and try their best! Archery is unique in that it hones discipline skills, is individualistic yet team oriented and requires a minimal amount of athletic skill.

How much fundraising is involved?
The Falcons host an invitational Top the Table tournament in November, which is our largest fundraiser. We invite all New Mexico NASP schools to participate in the tournament, where we sell food, crafts and auction items during the event.

Additional fundraisers are ongoing throughout the year. Parents are encouraged to join the fundraising committee and/or provide fundraiser or sponsorship ideas to support the Booster's efforts. Parents are expected to help as much as possible - through volunteer time, donation of services or monetary support whenever possible.

How much does it cost to join the team?
There is an initial $100 fee. The fee covers costs associated with team uniforms, equipment and other administrative fees.

What is involved with competing at the NASP Western Nationals Bullseye and Western Nationals 3-D Conferences?
We are always optimistic that are team will qualify for Nationals, as they have attended every year the last five years! This is a great chance for archers to compete among the top NASP schools across the western U.S., whether as a team or individually. The National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) drew over 2,795 in 2025 at the Western National Tournament at the Mountain America Exposition Center in Sandy, Utah the highest ever for this event. Over 2,400 Bullseye archers also came from 26 states. For several western archers, this event was the first time they had qualified to attend a NASP® national competition. In order to qualify as a team for both middle and high school, we must have at least at least four boys and four girls for Bullseye, and only six total for 3-D.

How will archery help my son or daughter with college applications?
Archery is not as commonly listed as an extracurricular sport for high school in most college applications so participating and excelling at archery is a definite way to stand out.

Are there opportunities to advance in archery?
Yes. If your son or daughter has a minimum B average, they may qualify as an Academic Archer. Coaches are responsible for submitting the archer's name in the beginning of the season on the NASP site for consideration. When archers receive their scores, his or her standing as an academic archer will be noted next to their name. They should also receive a pin at the end of the year and a certificate.

What equipment is provided by the school, and what do I need to purchase for my archer?
The ABQ Aviation Academy Archery Booster Club Inc. provides arrows, knocks and string along with targets for practice; however, all archers are responsible for purchasing their own bows and cases. Team shirts are provided as part of the fee that parents pay up front.
